1 Metals nonmetals & metalloids
By: Christina Cravinas 8th

2 metals Are generally shiny when they are smooth & clean
They are solids at room temperature Good conductors of heat & electricity Malleable & ductile On periodic table, to the left of the metalloids Loses electrons to form positive ions Make up ¾ of all known elements Mostly found in group A & B elements

3 Pictures of Metals

4 nonmetals On periodic table, to the right of metalloids
They are generally gases or brittle, dull- looking solids Poor conductors of heat and electricity Bromine is in a liquid state at room temperature, but the others are gases Gain electrons to form negative ions Highly reactive group 7A elements: halogens Extremely nonreactive group 8A elements: noble gases

5 Pictures of nonmetals

6 metalloids Elements with chemical and physical properties of both metal and nonmetals They are located on the border “stair step” line on the periodic table Silicon and Germanium are the two most important and are mainly used in computer chips & solar cells

7 Pictures of metalloids

8 More pictures of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids

9 Metals: Co, Ti, Ca Nonmetals: C,S,H Metalloids: B and Te

10 The end 
