Read the passage and understand what is required.
Highlight words in the cloze that give you ideas as to what is required to complete the cloze.

4. 4. Then read Version 1. Focus on what you have highlighted in Version 2.
5. Check your answers. Make sure they fit the cloze. Very often candidates fill in answers that are copied directly or transcribed from Version 1 but that don’t fit the context of the cloze.

5. Skills for Proofreading
Read the sentence or clause as a unit, not just the individual line. The sentence usually goes beyond the line. This help you find the mistake in a line , if there is one.

1) articles;
2) parts of speech;
3) verb forms;
4) singulars and plurals;
5) agreements; and
6) prepositions.
