2. What is figurative language?
It uses words beyond their usual or literal meaning.
Helps to make writing more vivid and colorful.
Gives added meaning to a word or expression.
Creates images for readers

3. IMAGE CREATOR
Discuss, in a think/pair/share, as a writer why it is important to create images in the readers mind.
Also discuss why it is important as a reader to create a colorful, vivid image when you are reading.

4. Types of Figurative Language
Alliteration: Using the same starting sounds (tongue twister)
Hyperbole: Comparing two objects by using a huge exaggeration
Idiom: has meaning apart from the meaning of its individual words
Onomatopoeia: Imitation of natural sounds in word form - ‘Bong’ ‘Bang’

5. More Figurative Language
Metaphor: Compares two unlike things (without like or as)
Personification: Giving human characteristics to animals, ideas, and objects
Similie: Compares using the word like or as
Pun: Play on words

You are about to enter and explore the world of figurative language.

7. DIRECTIONS
Each of you will get a booklet. The number on the back of the booklet tells you which station to start with. Ex: If you are a #3, you will start on idioms. Then you would proceed to 4, 5, 6, 7, 1, and 2
