3 Plot (definition) Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story. Every plot is made up of a series of incidents that are related to one another.

4 1. Exposition This usually occurs at the beginning of a story. In the Exposition: We learn about the setting (Time & Place) of the story. The characters are introduced. 1

5 2. Conflict 2 We are introduced to the main conflict (main problem).
The main types of conflict are: Man vs. Man Man vs. Self Man vs. Society Man vs. Nature Man vs. Alien 2

6 3. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s) in layers. A building of interest occurs through foreshadowing and suspense. 3

7 4. Climax This is the turning point of the story. Usually the main character comes face-to-face with a conflict, and the main character will change or grow in some way. 4

8 5. Falling Action The main conflict from the climax is resolved. 5

9 6. Resolution The secondary conflicts are resolved. 6

10 7. Denouement The story comes to a reasonable ending with the unraveling of parts. 7

12 PLOT Activity: Choose a fairy tale and Identify the beginning, middle, and end of the story using only one word for each tic-tac-toe square.
