The Jesuits Ignatius of Loyola founded the Society of Jesus, known as the Jesuits. “Teach us, good Lord, to serve Thee as Thou deserves: to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask for any reward save that of knowing that we do Thy will.”

3 Pope Paul III Pope Paul III identified the need to reform
With Protestantism spreading, he identified the need for reform to keep papal authority

4 Council of trent Final decrees reaffirmed traditional Catholic teachings held in opposition to Protestant beliefs. The pope’s interpretation of the Bible was correct and final, and anyone who disagreed was a heretic. Christians are saved by faith AND good works The Bible and church tradition share equal authority for guiding Christians Indulgences, pilgrimages, and holy relics are valid expressions of Christianity But selling indulgences was banned Belief in purgatory and clerical celibacy was affirmed

5 Result for Roman catholic church
After the Council of Trent, the Roman Catholic Church had a clear body of doctrine, was unified under the pope, and had a renewed sense of confidence.
