2. Time line
France and Louis XVIII constitutional charter and Great Britain began adopt liberal ways.
Laissez Faire began to be added into Liberalism.
Middle class began to become more liberal.
Nationalism stemmed off Liberalism in a more radical extent.
Socialism began in France (believed in economic planning)
Marxian Socialism was developed (1848 when Communist Manifesto was released - “all working men unite”)
Communism stemmed off Socialism in a more radical way.

3. Thesis
Both Liberals and socialist were radical groups that had common beliefs but also opposed one another. Both groups believed in a certain amount of social equality. On an economical aspect they had differences in whether it should be free trade or not. Liberals put importance on the individual while socialism put importance on the community.

4. Both Socialist and liberals wanted certain freedoms for the people to a certain extent
Socialist wanted freedom for everyone including women and believed in the abolition of marriage.
Both groups believed in total equality by law. The socialist took it further and wanted to get rid of classes and title.
Some liberals believed in universal male suffrage. They wanted to abolish property requirements to vote. This is similar to the equality the socialist believed in

5. Liberals believed in unrestricted free trade while socialist believed in government controlled industry.
French socialist wanted the government and the middle class to help the poor
Liberals believed in the writing of adam smith and believed that an invisible hand balanced the market
Karl Marx called profits wages stolen from the worker

6. Liberals focused of the individual while socialism focused on the community as a whole.
Liberals believed in capitalism which said that competition and individual work would decide who prospered and who was poor
Socialist believed in creating perfect societies where every person was equal and there were no classes. The only class they believed in was the working class
