COASTAL PLAIN INTERIOR LOWLANDS COASTAL RANGE CANADIAN SHIELD BASIN AND RANGE GREAT PLAINS ROCKY MOUNTAINS APPALACHIAN HIGHLANDS

2 COASTAL PLAIN Located along the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
Broad lowland that provides many excellent harbors.

3 APPALACHIAN HIGHLANDS
Old, eroded mountains (oldest mountain range in North America)

4 CANADIAN SHIELD Wrapped around Hudson Bay in a horseshoe shape
Hills worn by erosion and hundreds of lakes carved by glaciers

5 INTERIOR LOWLANDS Rolling flatlands with many rivers, broad river valleys, and grassy hills.

6 GREAT PLAINS Flat land that gradually increases elevation as you travel westward; grasslands

7 ROCKY MOUNTAINS Rugged Mountains stretching from Alaska almost to Mexico: high elevations Contains the continental divide, which determines the directional flow of rivers

8 BASIN AND RANGE Area of varying elevations containing isolated mountain ranges and valleys Contains Death Valley, the lowest point in North America

9 COASTAL RANGE Rugged mountains along the Pacific Coast that stretch from California to Canada. Contains fertile valleys.
