2 Slope is the ratio that describes the tilt or slant of a line
If a line slants up from left to right, it has a positive slope. If a line slants down from left to right, it has a negative slope.

3 Slope formula Slope = rise vertical change run horizontal change
Find the slope of the line shown in this graph.

4 Your turn Just by looking tell if the line has a positive or negative slope. Then use the slope formula to find the slope of this line.

5 If you know 2 points on a line you can calculate the slope another way.
y2 – y1 This is also known as slope = x2 – x1
