Learning Outcomes: Good: You must be able to write about events in chronological order. Great: You need to be able to explain why events have happened in chronological order. Awesome: You need to be able to analytically explain a sequence of events in chronological order using three clear PEEL paragraphs.

Think-pair-share: As a pair think about what slavery means. When you are happy write down your definition in both of your books. Slavery = a system whereby humans can be treated as property and can be owned, bought and sold.

Task: Stick in your blank map of Europe, Africa and the Americas. Use the diagram and your video notes to help you add labels. You should be looking to add: arrows, place names and goods traded. From Britain to West Africa with guns, cloth, rum, pots, metal, etc. From the Americas to Britain with sugar, cotton, tobacco, etc. From West Africa to the Americas with slaves. 5 minutes End

Task: Use the research sheet to add to your notes sheet on the Middle passage the more detail the better. Write a detailed description in your books of the Middle Passage. You must include: The treatment of the slaves The punishments The food The exercises Choose a task Independent learning Many slaves died during this journey. Explain why do you think the slave traders did not improve conditions during the journey? Why do you think the slave traders cleaned and exercised the slaves? 15 minutes End
