1 NATURAL SELECTION COMIC STRIP
Due Date: __________________

2 Directions: Create a page from a comic book about natural selection. Use the following statements in combination with illustrations on panels to creatively display the information. You must be neat and use color (1 pt). The comic strip must include the captions below (4 pts) and correctly illustrated drawings in each panel (4 pts)

3 Keep in Mind: Organisms need to be real
Selection process needs to be plausible Take a look at the questions on the back BEFORE you start designing your comic strip

4 Edit the captions to fit YOUR evolution scenario.
Let’s Model: Select ONE organism and ONE TRAIT/PHENOTYPE Edit the captions to fit YOUR evolution scenario. Fish come in a variety of sizes. This is called genetic variation.

5 Draw Xs to show ONE particular phenotype variety NOT SURVIVING as well.
This example has the LARGE FISH not surviving as well. Keep in mind a REASON for this selective pressure (predator, food source, etc) More offspring are produced than the environment can support; therefore, some die and some survive. This is called overproduction.

6 Not ALL large fish varieties have to die, but it should be obvious which trait is being selected for survival. The survivors (smaller fish) must compete for limited resources. The small fish are most fit (best adapted) survive and reproduce. This is called competition and survival of the fittest.

7 Be sure to use arrows and/or size to indicate parents and offspring
The small sized fish survive and pass on their favorable variations (small phenotypes) to their offspring, and over time the population changes in that environment to contain mostly small fish. This is called natural selection.
