1 Dividing integers

2 Rule #1: The rules for assigning signs to a quotient of two integers are based on the rules for products The quotient of two positives or two negatives is a positive 12 / 2 = 6 -12 / -2 = 6 The quotient of a positive and a negative is a negative 10 / -5 = -2 -10 / 5 = -2

3 Rule #2: Division of integers can be modelled using a sharing, grouping, or inverse multiplication
-10 / 2 = ? -10 counters shared between 2 groups = -5 each

4 Grouping -10 / -2 = ? How many jumps of -2 does it take to get to -10? 5

5 Inverse Multiplication
-10 / 2 ? X 2 = -10 ? = -5

6 Assignment and Quiz Using these rules complete the assignment.
If you have questions ask Mrs. George. When you have finished your assignment ask Mrs. George for the answer sheet. Correct your assignment. If you scored 90% or higher you may get a computer to complete the quiz. If you scored less than 90% you must do your corrections. Show Mrs. George your score in order to move on. Quiz: Go to the class Weebly, Course Materials, Math. Click on the button That Quiz. Click on your name and enter your password. Go the multiplication quiz
