The bearing surfaces in an engine would heat up and scuff. The engine would run only a short time. The engine would sieze.

Place the car on jack stands.
Remove the oil plug out of the drain pan.
Drain the oil in an oil pan.
Replace the drain plug and do not over tighten.
Remove the old oil filter.
Put oil on the new filter gasket and install with a strap wrench.
Fill with new oil untl dip stick says full.
Start the engine and check the idiot light or guage.
Let set (with engine not running) for 5 minutes.
Check level, it should be low.
Put the last ½ to 1 quart in, then recheck if full. (do not over fill)
