2 The power of the French While Spain was losing influence, France was growing in power under Louis XIV “The Sun King” Wanted to expand the Fur Trade over creating farm settlements New France

3 France’s Land Army The French were a force to be reckoned with on land. They maintained a huge land army because they had to contend with other European powers A force to stand against the English

4 The Power of the English
The British maintained a huge empire The Sun Never Sets on the British Empire Focused on creating farm settlements over expanding the Fur Trade

5 The British Navy England had control of the seas.
Under the reign of Queen Elizabeth, England had developed a large, well organized navy A force to stand against the French

6 What About the First Nations?
First Nations were willing to share the land peacefully if they could continue their traditional ways of life But… Settler’s farms made the land useless for hunting or trapping

7 Global Conflict This imbalance of powers meant that every time there was conflict between the French and English, it led to fighting on several fronts included their wars in Europe and whatever allies they could gather Overseas they fought over colonies which involved colonists and First Nations

8 Result of this Global Conflict
The result of this global conflict is important to Canada's history because the nation that will ultimately win, will control almost all of North America
