1 Warm-Up: Synthesizing Evidence
Get two squares of paper. Get out your yellow t-chart. Choose ONE piece of evidence from the “Dream is Achievable” side of your chart, and write it on your one square. Please provide the citation as well. Now choose ONE piece of evidence from the “Dream is NOT Achievable” side of your chart, and write it on the other square. Please provide the citation as well. Wait for further directions 

2 Analyzing Sources In order to write your synthesis essay, you will need to read and analyze more sources. Of the sources provided to you today, you MUST use at least three of them in your final essay (in addition to sources on your yellow sheet). Feel free to write on your copies, annotate, and use the provided graphic organizer. Approach this like a DBQ – you are looking for sources and evidence that will support the claim you wish to make (challenge, defend, or qualify).

3 Pre-Writing Pre-write in a way that makes sense to you – but it IS required as a step in your process paper. The graphic organizer will provide you with a nice outline, or you can use another format that you prefer. Remember: Synthesis is a conversation between your sources. You must connect them, link them, relate them, and pull them back to your ideas and thesis throughout the essay.

4 Drafting Write your rough draft!
Please skip lines so that you have room to revise as needed.

5 Peer Editing Find a friend  Trade rough drafts with them.
