1 WRITING WORKSHOP

2 I AM POEM I wonder (something you are curious about
I am (two special characteristics) I wonder (something you are curious about I hear (an imaginary sound) I see( an imaginary sight) I want ( an actual desire) I am ( the firs line of the poem) I pretend ( something you pretend to do or be) I feel (a feeling about something) I touch (imaginary or real) I worry (something that bothers you) I cry (something that makes you sad) I understand (something you know is true) I say (something you believe in) I dream (something you actually dream about) I try (something you make an effort to do) I hope (something you can actually hope for ) I AM POEM

3 Example I am sharp and focused I wonder what the camera really sees
I hear the buzzing bee I see flowers in early morning light I want to stop time in a box I pretend to be a statue I feel the shakes inside I tough the shutter button I worry about the blurry result I cry that the moment has forever passed I understand moments in time I say let’s freeze them forever I dream of watercolor effects coming to life I try to see all the soft muted edges I hope it happens someday Example

4 Example of Slam Poetry - Carnival of Souls
Carnival of Souls Bathing in dust, each one is trampled beneath the weight of my words Running in twisted circles, dizzied from my verbal carousel Unable to stand straight; falling over themselves from vision blurred A simple man with heart rides the coaster the polished one calls absurd Prominent in their own minds, they attempt the inevitable to dispel Bathing in dust, each one is trampled beneath the weight of my words In suffocating mists I swallow the foolish driveling putrefied curd Chasing their own tales while bragging to all about how they excel Unable to stand straight; falling over themselves from vision blurred Reeling from the spin of my verse they hit the ground, words now slurred Unfettered gibberish thrown in all directions, becoming jagged shrapnel Bathing in dust, each one is trampled beneath the weight of my words To the learning one I extend my hand, ignoring condescending banter I watch those drown in their own excrement, high off their own smell Unable to stand straight; falling over themselves from vision blurred Invoking the ringmaster I set fire to hollow husks of egos they’ve spurred Enraged by my capacity, they claw at empty throats for lyrics to repel Bathing in dust, each one is trampled beneath the weight of my words Unable to stand straight; falling over themselves from vision blurred

5 Example of an acrostic poem
