Week 7 Definitions- Copy into your binder
Resolution- unfolding or solution of a complicated issue in a story Connotative-the emotions and associations connected to a word, the implied meaning Denotative- the literal meaning of a word or phrase, the dictionary definition Modifier- word, phrase, or clause that functions to provide additional information about another word or word group Redundancy- the use of words that could be omitted without loss of meaning

Turn and Talk What kinds of words would you use to modify the word ‘Mom’? Have you ever been disappointed in the resolution of a book, movie, or t.v. show? Which one? Where could you find the denotation of a word? What do you think a redundant question is? Come up with an example of a pair of words that have different connotations – one positive and one negative.

Copy these sentences into your Binder
Sometimes the connotative meaning is harder to understand than the denotative meaning. Too many modifiers in a sentence can lead to redundancy. The resolution of this story left me wanting to read the next book in the series.

Rewrite one sentence from the other day but substitute the underlined words.
