Thesis- a short statement, usually one sentence, that summarizes the main point or claim of an essay, research paper, etc., and is developed, supported, and explained in the text by means of examples and evidence. 5. Topic Sentence- a sentence that captures the meaning of the entire paragraph or group of sentences. It tells what the passage is mainly about. 6. Symbol- a literary device that contains several layers of meaning, often concealed at first sight, and is representative of several other aspects, concepts or traits than those that are visible in the literal translation alone
