Pirates stole booty from other ships. Sometimes they used what they stole right away, like food or clothing, but sometimes they were lucky enough to steal gold which they needed to save until they were back at home. Then they hid their treasure so that others couldn’t find and steal it.

11. Once the treasure is found, the pirates share it.
The quartermaster is responsible for dividing it up fairly. Everyone gets the same amount except for the captain, who gets double.
