3 In preparation for this first-time 3x3 National Championship event, several states across the country held state-level 3x3 tournaments to pick their representing teams. These state teams conducted training camps with their selected team prior to the Championship. Result of which was a competitive tournament and an avenue to select players for the international 3x3 championship.

7 The Basketball Federation of India conducted the 1 st ever 3x3 National Championship for Men & Women at the centrally air conditioned Thyagaraj Indoor stadium wooden flooring court in New Delhi on 10 th & 11 th April 2013 with 20 Men & 16 Women teams participating in the two days event and about 30 Technical officials for officiating matches. The teams and officials were provided with comfortable boarding and lodging from one day prior & one day after the Championship in Hotels. Busses were provided for commuting from Hotel to stadium and back on both the days. Matches were conducted during the entire day as per the official rules of FIBA for the 3x3 format, allowing enough rest for teams between matches. Total of Rs 5.8 lakh was distributed as prize money during both the Nationals Championship for Men & Women and U18 National Championship to motivate the players and have a competitive tournament.

12 India Women win gold at the inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship at Doha, Qatar (15 th – 16 th May 2013)

13 Basketball Federation of Indias constituted Selection Committee observed the performance of the players during the 3x3 inaugural National Championship in New Delhi and selected 8 probable s each in both the section for a 15 days National Coaching camps in order to prepare the teams for the upcoming international events later in the year. Both the teams then went on to participate in the 1 st FIBA Asia Championships for Men & Women held at Doha, Qatar on 15 th & 16 th May 2013. The Womens team won the Gold medal and the Mens team reached the Quarter final stage

14 Carrying forward the form of three successive wins on the opening day, the Indian women, with Geethu Anna Jose leading the challenge, won the three play-off games. India won all their three games reaching the 21-point mark Geethu Anna Jose was declared the Best Player in her section JourneyTowardsGold Journey Towards Gold

15 Ludhiana served as a cracker of a venue for the both the National Mens and Womens team as well as the U18 teams as they trained for a month each in preparations for the inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship in their respective categories.

17 Another national championship was conducted on the 3x3 format-the 1 st 3x3 U18 National Championship for Boys & Girls at Ludhiana, Punjab on 18 th & 19 th April, 2013 in which 17 Boys and 16 Girls teams participated in the event. the BFI Selection Committee selected the probable for the Coaching camp of 8players each in both the sections, for the 1 st FIBA Asia U18 3X3 Championship for Boys & Girls held at Bangkok, Thailand on 22 nd to 24 th May 2013. The teams and officials were accommodated in Hotels and provided with nutritive food and transport for focal commuting.

19 The campers after a 15 days coaching camp were shortlisted to form the Indian teams of 4 players each to participate in Thailand. It was a proud moment for the Basketball fraternity of India when the U18 Boys & Girls teams won Silver Medals in their respective sections.

20 Basketball Federation of India, in a glittering ceremony rewarded the 1 st FIBA ASIA 3x3 Champions - Indian Women Team with Rupees Three Lacs AWARD to appreciate and recognise their outstanding performance. The U-18 Boys and Girls were also awarded Rupees Four Lacs AWARD for winning the SILVER Medals in their respective sections during the FIBA ASIA 3X3 Championship held in Thailand.

21 Basketball Federation of India is actively promoting 3x3 format for all sections in India through its affiliated state units to promote Basketball. Basketball Federation of India is organising National College & School leagues in 3x3 competitions to create awareness and cultivate interest in the game.

23 National Tournament for this format of the game will now be held annually in India. Basketball Federation of India is positive of spreading awareness in the country and has been devoting considerable resources towards popularising the game.
