2 Grants call for proposals
In 2009, Eurostat launched a call for proposals on actions aiming at the implementation of ISCO-08 which could be partially financed by grants. The action can cover one or several of the following activities: Works of coordination of preparation of the implementation of the ISCO-08 The development or adaptation of a national classification of occupations compatible with ISCO-08 and the corresponding trans-coding programs to ISCO-08 The development or adaptation of a module of questions for the collection of data on occupation The development or adaptation of national tools for the codification of occupation Test of the implementation of ISCO-08 in one of the major data collections Training of staff, experts, codifiers and interviewers in charge of data collections using ISCO the action can cover one or several of the following activities: Coordination of preparation of the implementation of the new classification in European data collections using ISCO, in the National Statistical Institute and together with any institution in charge of occupational classifications or of official statistics which include information on occupations; The development or adaptation of a national classification of occupations compatible with ISCO-08 and the corresponding trans-coding programs to ISCO-08 (for countries using such a national classification); The development or adaptation of a national module of questions for the collection of data on occupation according to ISCO-08 or the national classification compatible with ISCO-08; The development or adaptation of national tools for the codification of occupation according to or compatible with ISCO-08 (using the module of questions above), such as manuals, encoding tools for questionnaires (databases of job titles), including CAPI or CATI software (research by key words or electronic dictionaries, e.g. in Blaise), IT programs for checking (plausibility or consistency tests, including in relation to other relevant variables such as education or economic activity), processing of the data, etc.; Test of the implementation of ISCO-08 in one of the major data collections concerned, such as the LFS or in a dedicated pilot data collection (e.g. when preparing the Census, the SES, etc.), including comparison of the structure of occupations with data from different sources and overtime; Training of staff, experts, codifiers and interviewers in charge of data collections using ISCO, in the National Statistical Institute or in any institution collecting official statistics which include information on occupations.

3 Grants awarded Seventeen countries have applied and are going to receive grants for the implementation of ISCO-08. The actions proposed in the grant agreements cover different aspects of the implementation and vary a lot from a country to another. Nevertheless, actions like the development or adaptation of national tools for the codification of occupation, training or update of the index of occupations will be conducted by several countries and the share of information can be useful and recommended.
