1 Year 4 Welcome Meeting for Parents 21st September 2017

2 Welcome and Introductions
Staff: 4C Teacher – Mrs Coles, TA – Mr Matthews 4H Teacher – Mr Harris, TA’s – Hannah Hartley, Miss Elliot, Mr Sam, Miss Blake & Mrs Rutherford

3 Timetable and routines
4H/4C PE: Indoor – Tuesday afternoon PE: Outdoor – Thursday afternoon (Jogging bottoms good for cold weather) Library- Friday

4 Behaviour policy and Expectations
Reward systems: Positive approach – Class behaviour chart, stickers, Star Pupil of the Week. Golden time – Friday afternoon for up to 40 minutes. Consequences – warning, moving down behaviour chart, time out, partner class.

5 Topics of study Main topics include: Autumn – It’s a Small World.
Were the Dark Ages dark? Batteries included. Spring – Dragons: Fact or Fiction? The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Sounding Off Summer –Where does my food go? Amazing Amazon A Place for Everything Watersports (Summer Term) TBC

6 Communication Open door policy – please feel free to pop in and see us before or after school for ‘quick concerns’ or phone the office to make an appointment to meet if you need more time or would like more privacy. Formal parent consultations – After October half-term. Please use the Reading Record as a means of communication (A member of the Year 4 team will check them every day.

7 Homework Reading – please listen to your child read or discuss their book daily and sign their Reading Record. Spellings – recorded in their Reading Record. Spellings are assessed on a Friday and results shared in their Reading Record. Topic challenges – These will be set throughout the year and will be communicated in the reading record. Keep a look out for these! Weekly Homework – Every Thursday your child will be given a set homework task for the week. They will be provided with a homework book in which to complete the task. Homework is to be returned by the next Thursday.

8 Targets We set half termly targets to help enable progress in the core areas of reading, writing and maths. Your child will stick in their individual targets in their Reading Records. As they progress, their targets will change on an individual basis. We will help children to recognise what they need to do to achieve their target.
