1 5 May 2019 5 mai 2019 Project: IEEE P Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: TG4a UWB PHY preamble/modulation status on Sept 22th, 2005 IEEE Garden Grove Date Submitted: Sept 22th, 2005 Source: Philippe Rouzet (STMicroelectronics) Contact: Philippe Rouzet TG4a UWB Technical Editor Voice: , Abstract: Intermediate status of UWB PHY activity at IEEE GG, as of Sept. 19th Purpose: To provide a basis for further discussions and meetings in 15.4a PHY UWB group during IEEE Garden Grove session Sept To help prepare simulations for codes and timing selection before mid October 2005. Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. 2 To help prepare discussion on LDC
5 mai 2019 Purpose To help prepare simulations for codes, FEC and timings selection before mid October 2005. To help prepare discussion on LDC Philippe Rouzet (STM)

3 Preamble Structure Preamble Header Payload SYNC/CE SYNC SFD S S S S S
5 mai 2019 Preamble Structure Preamble Header Payload SYNC/CE SYNC SFD S S S S S S S -S or -S -S -S S S S SYNC : Synchronization Field SFD : Start Frame Delimiter Field CE : Channel Estimation Filed NOTE : Only the content of S field is specified (not the polarity or placement within the preamble) Preamble length : 50 us, or 500 us or 4 ms Philippe Rouzet (STM)

4 Preamble Code Structure
5 mai 2019 Preamble Code Structure Ternary Codes (length 31) S1 S2 S3 S4 S5 S6 Ternary Codes (length 127) S1 S2 S3 S4 S5 Philippe Rouzet (STM)

5 Differentially Coherent
5 mai 2019 Summary (Preamble) Ternary Modulation Coherent Ternary Non-Coherent Ternary Differentially Coherent LPRF a1. Peak PRF (MHz) 247 a2. Average PRF (MHz) 123.5 code duration (microseconds) 4.02 0.51 HPRF 30.875 1.00 Preamble length is an integer multiple of the S field Mandatory Low PRF Mode Adaptive Peak PRF (mechanism TBD) : MHz & MHz All devices should support both PRFs Codes : the set of 6 PBTSs (1) of length 31 (within a cyclic shift) Optional High PRF Peak PRF : 247 MHz Codes : the set of 5 PBTSs of length 127 (within a cyclic shift) (1) Perfect Balanced Ternary Sequences Philippe Rouzet (STM)

6 Data Modulation *PEAK PRF values are given as an example
5 mai 2019 Data Modulation *PEAK PRF values are given as an example Currently 3 values are being discussed: 61.750 247 494 S codes and semi-symbols (12 first of 16 bursts) are both continuously scrambled Length of air symbols will be determined after the FEC is defined * * S positionned within the 12 first slots, 4 last slots always 0 Philippe Rouzet (STM)

7 About timings and other parameters to be defined
5 mai 2019 About timings and other parameters to be defined Pulse shape to be chosen Preamble: duration known (thus PHY Sync/Header “almost known”) S field polarity to be fixed (auto/cross correlation properties, spectrum smoothing) S field position within Preamble to be fixed (same ) Data modulation: Scrambler selected (?) Target data rates fixed  … PEAK PRF to be determined (values and number of PRFs) FEC to be selected (both for Coherent and Non Coherent) In addition, Interframe Spacing must also be discussed THEN (In-Air) Frame duration (function of payload and preamble types) can be determined  Hypothesis on LDC ( function of typical applications) can be elaborated Philippe Rouzet (STM)
