The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures < ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at Jiyoung et al.

2 Abstract This proposal makes the Path Switch Request and Response more efficient and flexible by adding the reason and result of the path switch request in the frames related to path switch. Jiyoung et al.

3 The current Path Switch Mechanism
The Path Switch Request/Response frame cannot indicate why the path switch is requested and whether the request is acceptable or not AP STA1 STA2 ①: Direct Link ③+⑤: AP-Path There may be several reasons for the request Tx Path Switch Response (Link Identifier, Dialog Token, Path) ? Rx Path Switch Response (Link Identifier, Dialog Token, Path) Tx Path Switch Request (Link Identifier, Dialog Token, Path) Rx Path Switch Request (Link Identifier, Dialog Token, Path) There may be several reasons that cannot accept the request Jiyoung et al.

4 Suggestion A STA that can know the link state requests the path switch including the information such as the reason for the request. The STA receiving the request can decide whether the link should be changed or not based on the information included in the request and itself. Jiyoung et al.

5 Tx Path Switch Request/Response
①: Direct Link ③+⑤: AP-Path RCPI1: RCPI of ⑤ RCPI2: RCPI of ① AP STA1 STA2 Tx Path Switch Request Tx Path Switch Response Reason (1-Octet) Path Dialog Token Link Identifier Tx Path Switch Request Tx Path Switch Response Result (1-Octet) Path Dialog Token Link Identifier Rx Path Switch Request Rx Path Switch Response Result (1-Octet) Path Dialog Token Link Identifier Rx Path Switch Response Rx Path Switch Request Reason (1-Octet) Path Dialog Token Link Identifier Jiyoung et al.

6 Conclusion The reason field of path switch request frames allows the requested STA to decide whether the path should be changed or not. The result field of path switch response frames allows the requested STA to indicate why the path switch is accepted or rejected and, if rejected, the requesting STA to know why the path switch is rejected. Jiyoung et al.

7 Motion Move to include normative text in document v-normative-text-for-path-selection-and-switch.doc into the TGz draft. Mover: Seconder: Result: Jiyoung et al.
