1. Ion-selective push-pull pyridoannulenes

Push-Pull Pyridoannulenes : We have previously prepared a series of [14]-annulenes with electron-donating alkoxy groups and electron-withdrawing pyridine rings (1-3). These compounds exhibit different spectroscopic properties based on the orientation of the heteroatoms.
We aim to prepare new annulenes with ion binding properties by way of replacing the alkoxy groups with crown ethers. To this end, we have attempted to prepare annulene 9. Unfortunately, it was not possible to isolate 7 in pure form to complete the synthesis.
