2
Many years after Jesus' resurrection, one of His special helpers, John, was exiled to the island of Patmos.
3
While he was there, God showed John the amazing things that would happen in the days when Christ returned.
4
He showed John that after Christ returned, there would be a new heaven and a new earth, where God would live among mankind and take away all sadness and pain, and make all things new.
5
Then an angel spoke with John, saying, "Come here, let me show you the bride of the Lamb." And the angel carried John to a high mountain, where he saw the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down from heaven, made beautiful like a bride waiting for her husband.
6
The city shone with the glory of God, like a beautiful crystal. It had a high wall with 12 gates and an angel at each gate. The wall was made of jasper and the city was pure gold. The foundation stones held every kind of precious stone; like sapphires and emeralds and topaz. And the gates were each a pearl and the streets were pure gold. There was no temple in the city for the Lord God and the Lamb are its temple. It did not even need the sun or moon to shine on it for it shone with the glory of God, and the Lamb is its lamp. Its gates shall never be closed and nothing unclean and no one with sin shall ever be allowed to enter.
7
And the angel showed John a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
8
On each side of the river was the tree of life, bearing 12 kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. Its leaves were for the healing of the nations.
9
The servants of God shall see His face and His name shall be on their forehead. They will not need a lamp or the sun for light because the Lord God will light their way, and they shall reign forever and ever.
10
And then Jesus said to John, "Tell all the churches about the things I have shown you and that I will come soon to judge every person for what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the bright morning star."
11
"And the Spirit and the Bride say, 'Come'. And let the one who hears say, 'Come'. And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost."
