1 Chapter 10-3 Notes: Natural Selection in Action
Speciation: the formation of new species as a result of evolution. Extinction: describes a species that has died out completely.

2 Environmental Factors: things that determine whether traits in a population are favorable or unfavorable. Genetic Variation: a measure of how much individuals in a population differ genetically.

3 Adaptation: the evolving of traits in response to environmental conditions.
Speciation: the formation of a new species as a result of evolution. - separation, adaptation, & reproductive isolation are 3 parts of speciation.

4 Separation: the splitting apart of a portion of a population
Separation: the splitting apart of a portion of a population. Natural Selection are effected by both genetic variation & environmental factors.

5 3 Different environmental conditions that can lead to the extinction of species: - increased competition - new predators - loss of habitat
