1 Development and Utilization of a Library of Water-Soluble P,N Ligands Derived From 1,3,5-Triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) Donald A. Krogstad, Department of Chemistry, Concordia College Moorhead, MN 56562 Water-Soluble P,N Ligands: Bifunctional ligands containing P and N atoms have great potential in catalysis because of their ability to impart hemilabile properties upon their metal compounds. Presently, there is a need to prepare “green” water-soluble derivatives of these systems and to synthesize complexes of them for catalytic work. Therefore, we have developed three P,N ligands that utilize PTA, prepared Ru compounds of them, and employed the metal complexes as catalysts for the hydrogenation of acetophenone The catalytic experiments illustrated the importance of ligands that bind k2-P,N and the need for continued study of this green chemistry.
