3 The Cycle 1. You are going to watch and listen to a 3 min Rap song about Rock and write down the 3 types of rocks and explain how they are formed. It is really important at GCSE to take detailed notes. 2. Now you have time to add to your notes with more detail. Watching the video clip about jelly beans try to add more detail to your notes that will help you to create your own rock cycle diagram. 3. Using your detailed notes and own knowledge you are going to draw your own Rock cycle diagram into your books and explain how rocks move form one type to another.

4 What type of rock is it anyway?
Looking at the description of the rocks on your table, identify the rock. Task:

5 Keep your work neat and tidy!
Types of rock Although there are hundreds of different rock types, geologists classify rocks in three groups according to the major processes that formed them. These three groups are igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Cut out and correctly match the diagrams, the statements and the images to the correct rock examples on the next page. Keep your work neat and tidy! Igneous rocks are formed from melted rock that has cooled and solidified Sedimentary rocks are formed in layers at the surface of the Earth, either in water or on land. Metamorphic rocks have been subjected to pressures so intense or heat so high that they are completely changed. Complete these three sentences by writing them in your book: …………………………… rocks are formed from melted rock that has cooled and solidified. …………………………… rocks are formed in layers at the surface of the Earth, either in water or on land. …………………………… rocks have been subjected to pressures so intense or heat so high that they are completely changed. What did the rock say to the geologist? Don’t take me for granite.

6 There are 3 different types of rocks

7 Describe the distribution of the UK’s geology.
Hint: Use PQE technique (the general pattern, qualifications, exceptions). P- The South East coastline is made up of sedimentary rocks. E – At Norwich and Ipswich there is mostly Cainozoic rocks and at Dover and Brighton there is mainly Cretaceous rocks. E –This could be because the
