BY BROOKE, JUSTINA AND JACOB R How do we reduce the number of car crashes in NZ ?

DRUNK DRIVING When people drink then drive theyre not the only people they are endangering on the road or in the car. People go to a bar and get a bit drunk but they still think that theyre alright to drive so they get in there car by themselves or with others and they drive. The driver not focusing on whats around him as much as he should it can cause them to sometimes crash. People who drink then drive sometimes survive but some wish they hadnt.

Speeding We see a speed limit like this one here that says 30 but some people want or need to go faster so they could start to go 40 then 50 and so on. And then that could cause a crash a car going to fast in an area thats not suited for a car going to fast. This car could be in a 100 km\hr and its going 120km\hr this is an example of speeding

Intersections Intersections can be just as dangerous as speeding and alcohol. Intersections can cause a lot of crashes but depends what type of ones they are. Some you cant see the other road until you get around the corner. Others are just tricky to get through. Intersections can be a big part on why car crashes happen Although its not the main cause of crashes intersections can be deadly and very difficult to get around.

Fatal Crashes

When a car crashes it can be fatal the people in the car can die just like that. It might be the way the car got hit or how it landed after being crashed, because the car was going to fast and because the people in the car werent wearing seatbelts. 2004, people died from fatal car crashes the amount of people died was 435 people, 2005 405, 2006 391, 2007 422, 2008 366. Not all died right away but died in 30 days of there accident.

Loss of control One of the main causes of car crashes are losing control of there car and that causes an accident. When people lose control that can cause them to go all over the place. When they lose control on road they could get in the road of other cars on the road and make them get out of the way and cause another accident. 45 people died losing control on straight roads and 123 people died while cornering

Roading Our roads could be a factor of some car crashes because we have too many bends and with so many bends we cant see if there are cars coming around the corner. what we need to prevent this is more roading police, more speed cameras and higher fines to discourage people from speeding.

Car safety Cars in new Zealand are mostly about 12 years old and they do not have safety features

Safe road users Drink drivers are a big problem

conclusion We need Safe road users Safe vehicles Safe roads and roadsides Safe speeds
