1 Aim: What are some everyday implications of solutions?
Do now: What are the two different ions that are formed in a compound? Announcement Quiz Friday Finals - Jan. 17 and 18

2 Group Work Your group will be given 3 articles
Your job is to read them and summarize them. Explain the chemistry behind each article. Explain the implications. Your summary should not be less then 6 sentences.

3 Ionic Bonds and Ionic Compounds
7.2 Ionic Bonds and Ionic Compounds In many coastal countries that have warm, relatively dry climates, salt is produced by the evaporation of seawater.

4 The process of ionic bonding is one that is fundamentally important to our known universe, and it is a vital part of everyday life.  Ionic bonds are a special type of bond that bonds two atoms together.  These atoms must be a metal and a non-metal, and they must be in very specific chemical families to form ionic compounds.

5 The Nature of Covalent Bonding
8.2 The Nature of Covalent Bonding The colors in this map indicate the concentrations of ozone in various parts of Earth’s atmosphere. Oxygen atoms can join in pairs to form the oxygen you breathe and can also join in groups of three oxygen atoms to form ozone.

6 Polar Bonds and Molecules
8.4 Polar Bonds and Molecules Snow covers approximately 23 percent of Earth’s surface. Each individual snowflake is formed from as many as 100 snow crystals. The polar bonds in water molecules influence the distinctive geometry of snowflakes.

7 8.3 Bonding Theories This car is being painted by a process called electrostatic spray painting. The negatively charged droplets are attracted to the auto body. You will learn how attractive and repulsive forces influence the shapes of molecules.
