1 1930s through 1950s

2 1930s 29 Chryslers and 29 drivers await 29 governors at the 1932 Kiwanis International convention in Detroit, Michigan, USA.

3 1930s A common service project among Kiwanis clubs, three needy children enjoy their daily allotment of milk from Baker, Oregon, USA, Kiwanians in 1934.

4 1930s Many of the 4,037 attendees at the 1936 Kiwanis convention were welcomed at the White House by U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt. The convention’s keynote speaker that year was FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

5 1930s 1939. The Pullman, Washington, Kiwanis
Club established the “Circle K House” to allow young men with financial need to attend the State College of Washington. Much like a fraternity of its time, the organization fostered service to community.

7 1940s In 1940, Walter Zeller, back row on right, donated 25 Canadian silver dollars to be auctioned off, establishing the fund we know today as the Kiwanis International Foundation.

8 1940s At fairs, carnivals and sporting events, concession sales raise funds to fuel community service.

9 1940s Kiwanis International employees fill supplies orders from the McGraw-Hill Building overlooking Chicago's famous "Magnificent Mile." During World War II International Council meetings were substituted for annual conventions.

10 1940s Through the years, pancakes have long been a favorite Kiwanis fundraising product. Note how entertainers in center of picture receive a warm welcome from guests seated in foreground!

11 1940s During the 1940s, many clubs sponsored community sports teams ... or formed teams themselves.

12 1940s Initially a Kiwanis club project to provide housing for students in 1939 in Washington, Circle K was then a fraternity. The first Circle K International club for male college and university students & based on service to the campus was chartered at Carthage College, Illinois in 1947 with 23 men.

13 1940s In 1949, Kiwanis International Secretary Pete Peterson supports National Kids' Day by trading peanuts for contributions.

15 1950s The Kiwanis International Board created Key Club Week.

16 1950s Hobart, Oklahoma, USA, Kiwanis members and police work together to inspect bicycles on Safety Day.

17 1950s October 1955 – Representatives from all 168 CKI Clubs met in Philadelphia and voted to form an international organization under the sponsorship of Kiwanis. In 1956 a special department was created at KI Office to serve as headquarters for Circle K International.
