1
Multiply and Divide I can count equal groups of items saying how many groups and how many altogether. I can explain that multiplying is an easy way to add equal groups. I can make equal jumps along a number line to reach a given number.
2
I can build and describe
simple arrays. I can use arrays to investigate pairs of multiplication facts. I can apply multiplication strategies to determine multiplication facts. I can make links between the 2s, 4s and 8s facts.
3
I can use arrays to investigate linked multiplication and division.
I can use doubling and halving to link the 2, 4 and 8 x tables. I can use multiplication to help with division e.g. 63 ÷ 9: How many 9s make 63? I can share a number of items in to a given number of equal groups.
4
I realise that there may be some items left over when I share.
I can explain that dividing is an easy way to subtract equal groups. I can multiply and divide whole numbers by 10 and 100. I can apply my knowledge of inverse operations e.g. 3 x 6 = 6 x 3.
5
I can apply strategies to determine division facts.
I can use multiplication and division facts to solves problems within 0 to 1000 range. I can use correct mathematical vocabulary when discussing multiplication and division.
