Greek word group: hupokrisis (n.) = hypocrisy (7 throughout NT) hupokrites (n.) = hypocrite (20 in gospels; 15 in Matt.) sunupokrinomai (v.) = act hypocritically with (Gal. 3:12) anupokritos (adj.) = without hypocrisy (6 throughout NT) hupokrinomai (v.) = to pretend (Luke 20:20) Evolution of meaning: To answer To act on stage in a play Insult; one who pretends; “two-faced” (insincere)

4 Hypocrisy Condemned anupokritos = without hypocrisy; sincere
Sincere faith (I Tim. 1:5; II Tim. 1:5) Sincere love (Rom. 12:9; II Cor. 6:6; II Peter 1:22) For one another and for truth Sincere wisdom from God (James 3:17) Hypocrisy is unacceptable (Matt. 24:51)
