2 CONNECTING!

3 Prior to arrival identify your purpose
Prior to arrival identify your purpose. Define your objectives to know why you are there. Name tags should be worn on your right side. This provides an easy sight line to your name when shaking hands. Have an effective handshake. No “bone-crushers” or “Limp Fish” handshakes. Practice so that you became comfortable both giving and receiving. Don’t forget to introduce yourself! Say your name clearly. “hello, may name is ________. It’s a pleasure to meet you” Shake hands. In TEN seconds or less, describe who you are and what you do. “ I am a leasing consultant for ABC company. We manage approximately 40 residential properties.” When appropriate, offer a business card and ask the other person for one of theirs. Remember to keep your business cards handy. You should seem prepared and organized. Don’t stay in one place for too long. After 9-10 minutes, excuse yourself with a pleasant, “it was nice meeting you…” Mingle. ‘work the room” to get the most from your efforts.
