5 Provides 7 clear principles that professionals from all relevant sectors should adopt to inform, structure and encourage the continual improvement of support for young people with additional support needs EMIS

6 The target group specifically included young people with ASD, learning disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical or motor impairment, physical health issues and mental health issues. In addition, the surveys included those who were looked after or care experienced EMIS

8 Summary of the young people survey
Young people with ASN are broadly optimistic about the future They are mainly happy with the future choices available to them They are excited about taking control of their own lives They are mainly happy with the support they received for their transition. Parents were most valuable followed by guidance teachers More adult support would be beneficial EMIS

9 Summary of the parent and carer survey
Parents and carers do not look forward to their child’s transition – in contrast with the views of young people While at school only 1 in 10 are very happy with the support they receive from services – though school fares best The overwhelming majority (90%) do not have written plans – if they do they are unaware of it EMIS
