More Loyalists lived in the Southern Colonies, and the British were hoping they would support and supply the British troops in the area. 01 02
The Southern Colonies were richer in resources and more important for England to keep.

After losses in 1780 General Cornwallis (British) decides to go to Virginia to get back on track.
REASONS WHY PATRIOTS WIN YORKTOWN:
1) French fleet cutoff Cornwallis from getting more troops or making an escape by sea
2) French/American forces surround the land around Yorktown cutting off escape by land
