a 20th-century art form in which an artist or writer combines unrelated images or events in a very strange and dreamlike way
the principles, ideals, or practice of producing fantastic or incongruous imagery or effects in art, literature, film, or theater by means of unnatural or irrational juxtapositions and combinations

3. How is Surrealism created?
Juxtaposition: Places and/or objects together that are not normally seen together
Levitation: Floating people, places, or objects
Scale changes: Make large object or person smaller, or vice versa
Note: Your project MUST contain all 3 of these elements within the same composition

16. SURREALLISM Dreamscape Project
Step 1: Brainstorming/ Research: look up examples for inspiration. Research surrealism photography/ surrealism photo manipulations
Step 2:Begin sketching out different compositions for your dreamscape.
Sketch out at least 3 ideas in detail. (You will be turning these in)
Remember that you will need to take all the photos involved in your idea. (You may include 1 old to add to the 3 new photos.) You want to keep this as original as possible, meaning try your very best to avoid copying other artists images. The imagery needs to be related to you, your life, interests, etc.
Keep in mind you do not have to be “good” at drawing, to sketch out your idea. This will help you come up with a good plan before going out & taking photos. And will save you a lot of time in the long run.

STEP 3: Create a plan for taking your photos. When, Where, Who, What?
STEP 4:Take several of each location/subject matter. Try out different camera angles & lighting.
Remember you want to keep this as original as possible, meaning try your very best to avoid using other artists images. The imagery needs to be related to you, your life, interests, etc.

Begin composing your image on Photoshop.
Pay attention to clean lines, match lighting, & try your best to make it into ONE believable yet surreal image.
We will be working on these during class. It is up to you to plan out your photo shoots/times (you can take photos during class if it fits your idea and/ or if you do not have time to shoot for homework)

19. Your grade will be based on:

Surreal Dreamscape contains at least 3 new, original photos merged together.
Pieces of the photographs merged together are cut cleanly and placed into the same photo so that it is not obvious that multiple photos have been pasted together; should be a clean-looking photo
