1 Nov 2008 doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2012 Access Network Options field consideration for inclusion in FILS Discovery Frame Date: Authors: Graham Smith, DSP Group Graham Smith, DSP Group

2 Nov 2008 doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2012 Abstract The FILS Discovery frame has been proposed as a minimal indication for STAs carrying out passive scanning on information on the AP. An outline of the Access Network Options frame is provided. It is suggested that the Access Network Options frame, with a possible addition, be considered for mandatory inclusion in the FILS Discovery Frame. Graham Smith, DSP Group Graham Smith, DSP Group

3 July 2012 Background The FILS Discovery Frame is intended to provide enough information for a non-AP STA to make a decision on whether to: Proceed immediately to initiate Association Decide to de-select this AP and move on To decide it is worthwhile looking at the Beacon. Graham Smith, DSP Group

4 Access Network Options Field
July 2012 Access Network Options Field Bit 4 is the Internet field. The AP or mesh STA sets this field to 1 if the network provides connectivity to the Internet Bit 5 is the Additional Step Required for Access (ASRA) field. It is set to 1 by the AP to indicate that the network requires a further step for access. Bit 6 is the ESR (emergency services reachable) field. It is set to 1 by the AP or mesh STA to indicate that emergency services are reachable through the AP Bit 7 is the UESA (unauthenticated emergency service accessible) field. When set to 0, this field indicates that no unauthenticated emergency services are reachable through this AP Graham Smith, DSP Group

6 Add Security ? Note that bits 6 to 13 are reserved.
July 2012 Add Security ? Note that bits 6 to 13 are reserved. It is suggested that one bit is used for Open / secure say 0 = Open security Graham Smith, DSP Group

7 July 2012 Discussion The information in the Access Network Options field appears to be directly compatible with the objectives of the FILS Discovery frame. It is only 2 Bytes The addition of the “Secure Bit” need not be confined to a FILS AP Graham Smith, DSP Group

8 Motion Add to the Specification Framework Document the following:
July 2012 Motion Add to the Specification Framework Document the following: “The FILS Discovery Fame shall include the Access Network Options field. In addition, the possible inclusion of ‘Secure or Open’ indication be included (using a reserved field).” Graham Smith, DSP Group
