3 Merchants & the Medici The Medici family of Florence become wealthy from banking, wool manufacturing, mining, trade and other ventures. The Medici family became patrons of the arts. Michelangelo was among the artists who benefited from Medici patronage.

4 Lifestyle Shops and business on ground floor, crowded living above.
Garbage thrown out in street. Wealthy people had large homes, but little privacy, servants slept on floor.
