3 MGNREGS and SDGs The SDGs and targets have been mapped to various nodal ministries and flagship programmes by the NITI Aayog. Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) is the designated nodal agency for achieving SDG 1 – No Poverty. MGNREGS has been recognised as ‘core of the core’ scheme for achieving SDG 1. MGNREGS was reported in the Voluntary National Review 2017 by Government of India for its contribution to achieving SDG 1, while the scheme’s other contributions are to – SDG 5 – Gender Equality, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities

4 MGNREGS-SDG Dashboard
Based on the current data available on the NREGASoft Management Information System ( the MGNREGS-SDG dashboard has been developed to show impact of MGNREGS on 6 SDGs, 11 targets and 15 indicators. With further data collection and empirical studies, MGNREGS has the potential to show impact on 13 SDGs, 27 targets and 42 indicators. Source:

7 Selected Area for Micro-Planning
The selected Chuhari villages is part of Chuhari Panchayat and is located in the Eastern district of Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh The Chuhari Panchayat is consists of 3-villages. The areas of Chuhari village is 125 Ha. and the latitude and longitude of the village are N, E. The average annual rain fall of the area is 1373 mm. The digitized map of village Chuhari and its location in Mahasamund district are shown in the diagram on left.

8 Community Led Micro-Planning Steps
Village identification-Based on primary, secondary and Metrological data GIS and remote sensing data collection- procured to prepare the digitised maps for micro-watershed area, Building trust and Interaction with village community- with printouts of GIS based maps to understand the main issues and to collect the primary data. Marking of micro watershed areas - on digitized maps Re-confirm the available technical details – Boundary and other information Effective micro-planning- marked on the basis of technical perspectives.

10 Community Led Micro-Planning Steps
Water budgeting- based on available resources (resource estimation method and community knowledge) information about current cropping pattern, water use, irrigation pumping, crop productivity, available water harvesting structures, large water bodies near the village and livestock population was discussed with the communities. Rapid vulnerability assessment- Bio-physical and socio-economic status of communities Micro-planning exercise- with community members of village and identify available Government Schemes to leverage the funds for implementation Design additional measures- for the soil and water conservation measures

11 Community Led Micro-Planning Steps
The recommendations have been made for creating climate resilient infrastructure around the soil and water conservation structures with the help of introduction of permanent measures (vegetative cover) and multi-purpose varieties of trees, shrubs, grasses, fruit trees, etc. Finally, location, size and cost estimates for each of the proposed measures were finalised and plotted on the micro-watershed map of the village. 15 Scale-Up Potential The micro-planning approach feeds directly to the MGNREGS which has funds available for Natural Resource Management Works The entire approach followed by Department of Panchayat & Rural Development has excellent amount of focus on improved natural resources management. The DP&RD should give improved emphasis on community led micro-planning while finalising the “Works” under MGNREGA. The demonstrated approach by ACT Program can be adopted for improved planning. The micro-plans for the villages in different districts in the state can be prepared following the Chuhari village model. It is simple and easy to implement but it incorporates a) Community knowledge and b) Climate resilience building aspects. For GPDP plans, 2 villages from each block is being designed with GIS based micro-planning
