4 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
Does the idea of digging deeper intimidate you or overwhelm you? Perhaps in your mind you think that unless you have a Bible degree that you can’t dig deeper into the word This morning I want to show you the simplicity of digging deeper We have covered several topics to help you dig deeper and learn more to grow as a Christian…

5 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
What is meat Digging into the Old Testament Context Love for scripture Approach to scripture Words of God (importance of words) These things are good and needful, but I believe there is an additional way for us to dig deeper

6 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
Just Read Yes, it’s simple, but it can work as a method of learning more It’s not the only method we should use In real estate they say it’s about location, location, location When it comes to Christian growth, we might say it’s about our effort to read, read, read Romans 10:17 Text: Deut. 17:18-20 Instructions to the would-be king(s) of Israel God wanted His king to know the law He was to have his own copy of the law (v. 18) What did God expect him to do? (v. 19) READ, READ, READ (v. 19) Look at all the benefits that stem from that (v ) The more we read, the more we learn & remember

7 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
2. Read to Digest We are not talking about speed reading or merely reading to accomplish a goal It is reading with thought Psalm 119:15, 48, 148 (97-104) We should read shorter passages, really thinking about what the Bible says

8 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
Look what Paul told Timothy in I Timothy 4:13-16… 1. Read 2. Meditate on it 3. His progress would be evident Joshua was told the same in Joshua 1:8 It’s simple…read & think

9 Simplicity of Digging Deeper
3. Read to Discover Isn’t it funny how the mind works? I enjoy things such as Scrabble (Words with Friends) and crossword puzzles I’ll look at a clue (or word) and think about it…I can’t figure it out I’ll put it down & come back the next day...I’ll think of the answer right away I’ll see something one day that I did not see the day before I’ll think of something one day that I did not think of the day before What about when we read? Ever go back & read something again & discover something new? Something you missed or didn’t think about before That means we are learning & growing How many times had Jesus’ audience read the scriptures? Yet how many times did He say something like...”Have you not read?” I’m sure they had read it, but perhaps had never thought of it in the way He was demonstrating
