3 Pensar + inf. When the verb pensar is followed by an infinitive, it changes meaning from “to think” to “to plan” or “to plan on” Ex: I plan on studying today.  Pienso estudiar hoy. Translate the following: He plans on training tomorrow. We plan on brushing our teeth in the morning. You (formal) plan on bargaining for the souvenirs.

4 Presente progresivo The present progressive is used to say that something is happening now. Ex: I am talking. He is running. They are visiting. In English, the present progressive is formed by using a form of to be with a present participle A present participle is a verb that ends in –ing In Spanish, the present progressive is formed by using a form of estar with a present participle (a verb that ends in –ando or –iendo)

5 Participios presentes
To form a present participle in Spanish: 1. Drop the –ar, -er, or –ir verb ending 2. Add –ando to –ar verbs or –iendo to –ir/-er verbs Regatear  regateando If the stem of an –er or –ir verb ends in a vowel, add –yendo instead of –iendo Leer  leyendo An e  i or e  ie stem-changing verb that ends in –ir will change to i in the stem of the present participle Competir  compitiendo An o  ue stem-changing verb that ends in –ir will change to u in the stem of the present participle Dormir  durmiendo

7 Verbos reflexivos Reflexive verbs are used to tell that a person does an action to himself or herself. All reflexive verbs end in –se to represent the reflexive pronoun that is used with them A reflexive pronoun is necessary to show that the action is being done by a person to his or her self. Although we don’t use these in English, a sentence that would have the same meaning is “I bathe myself.’

8 Pronombres reflexivos
me (myself) te (yourself) se (himself or herself) nos (ourselves) os (yourselves) se (themselves or yourselves)

9 Verbos reflexivos 1. Change the –se ending on the verb to the correct pronoun 2. Move the pronoun and put it in front of the verb 3. Conjugate the verb Ex: afeitarse (vosotros) 1. afeitaros 2. os afeitar 3. os afeitáis

10 Verbos reflexivos If a reflexive verb is not after a conjugated verb, use all 3 steps and fully conjugate it Ex: Yo me peino. If a reflexive verb comes after a conjugated verb, only do step 1 and you’re done. Ex: Yo quiero/voy a/tengo que peinarme.

11 Presente progresivo con verbos reflexivos
In the present progressive, reflexive pronouns can be placed either before the conjugated form of estar or attached to the end of the present participle. Yo me estoy entrenando. Yo estoy entrenándome. When you attach a pronoun to the present participle, you need to add an accent to the stressed vowel. Usually, this will be the third to last syllable. peinándose bañándote
