4 13th Amendment January 31, 1865 Originally, was a protection for slavery! Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.“. Basically saying slavery is no longer legal Didn’t take effect until 1866

5 14th Amendment Congress-June 13, 1866 Ratified July 9th 1868
All persons born or naturalized in the United States are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens . Rebels banned from government.

6 15th Amendment Congress- Feb. 26, 1869 Ratified- Feb. 3, 1870
prohibits federal or state governments from infringing on a citizen's right to vote "on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." Only applied to African American men
