Interlocking Principles of Mercantilism… *Wealth was finite, the more a country had, the less another country could obtain * Precious metals, (gold and silver), were essential to a nation’s wealth. *Metals were to be obtained via mining, trade or creation of colonies $$$$ *National wealth was determined by favorable trade balances, meaning exports were greater than imports. *Colonies served as markets for exports AS WELL AS suppliers of raw materials.
