2 Learning Objectives To determine the role of key factors in creating a place profile. To understand that place profiles can tell a lot about the identity of a place. To know that place profiles are dynamic and change over time and so a places identity also changes over time.

3 A ‘Place Profile’ can be described as telling a ‘story of a place’.

4 Task: You are going to investigate 2 contrasting local areas in the UK - Kelvedon in Essex and the borough of Hackney in London. Use the websites to complete the sheets for both local areas by examining the 5 key factors listed to help determine their role in creating the place identity. Complete both columns. Place Profile - Kelvedon, Essex Place Profile – Hackney, London

5 Questions: Do the same factors have the most influence in creating a place identity in each location? (highest ranking). Do you think the factors that influence the place profile have changed over time? Why? Why not? In your own words, write a summary of what you have learnt this lesson.
