TOTAL PRODUCTIVE MAINTENANCE
TPM TOTAL : this shows participation in TPM program by each and every member of the organization PRODUCTIVE: maximization of production on the basis of defects, zero accidents, zero breakdowns MAINTENANCE: management’s commitment to make production equipment available for maximum time with least maintenance costs Total Productive Maintenance is a maintenance program concept. TPM is a systematic approach to understanding the equipment’s function, the equipment’s relationship to product quality and the likely cause and frequency of failure of the critical equipment components. OBJECTIVES OF TPM TPM Reduces all types of wastages viz., m/c hours, man hours, etc., It is based on approaching zero loss concept viz., zero breakdowns, zero defects It is applied to all departments from management to shop-floor It creates ownership of machines among people It improves maintenance through knowledge & skills It increases “profit margin” of an organization and many more Maintenance Circle
5
TPM BENEFITS OF TPM Better understanding of equipments
Reduced major breakdowns, stoppages & production losses Increased productivity, efficiency of machines Safe, clean workplace Increased confidence among employees Improved systems for tracking machine history, downtimes etc., and many more Maintenance Circle

TPM TPM - LIMITATIONS It cannot address inter-related problems
It can be successful on specific machines It is a time bound process. Minimum breakeven period is one year Once stopped, very difficult to restart from beginning Additional time investment sometimes limits TPM implementation. It needs to be considered before starting the Campaign Maintenance Circle
