2. What is puppetry?
Puppetry is a form of theater that utilizes puppets which are inanimate objects or figures that are manipulated by a puppeteer.
Most puppetries core is in storytelling.

3. History Puppetry can be traced back to 3000 BC
Ancient Egyptians used puppets, marionettes have been found in the tombs
Puppetry was very popular and common in Asia

4. Bunraku Japanese puppetry highly sophisticated form of puppetry
integrated into Kabuki theater (traditional Japanese theater with masks and face paint)
initially used one puppeteer per puppet and quickly developed to having three puppeteers
puppeteers wore all black and would become invisible against the black background

developed as a part of commedia d’ell arte
Punch was often times violent and would fight other puppets
part of a travelling cart, easy to move
note the violence and innuendo used in the show
