1 Ethical Employment of Immigrants

2 What is an Undocumented Worker?
Any individual who enters the United States and takes a job without following the legal immigration requirements which includes a work visa.

3 Undocumented Workers Employment of undocumented workers is unethical activity that destroys fair labor standards and robs legal workers of opportunities According to the Urban Institute Undocumented workers earn considerably less than U.S. citizens. 2/3 earn less than twice the minimum wage Employers commonly take a defense that they are unaware of the illegal status of the employee According to Federation for American Immigration Reform: Government and academic estimates indicate that as of 2006 there were 11 to 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

4 Documented Workers Immigrants who are legally living in the United States and have a work visa Employment of properly documented immigrants helps build communities and provides needed services at reasonable prices

5 Political “Hot Issues” Against Increasing Legal Immigration
More opportunity for terrorists, drug dealers and other criminals to enter the country Poorer immigrants that enter the country will consume higher amount of government resources including healthcare and education without paying the high tax rates Current American citizens earn less money and have fewer job opportunities because they must compete with immigrants in the job market

6 Current Proposals to Control Illegal Immigration Into the United States
Secure Our Borders Support additional personnel, infrastructure, and technology on the border and at the ports of entry Improve Our Immigration System Fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet the demand for jobs employers cannot fill Remove Incentives to Enter Illegally Cracking down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants Work with Mexico Promote economic development

7 Proposals to Provide a Legal Framework to Gain Legal Citizenship
Immigration Amnesty Forgives acts of illegal immigration and forgives related illegal acts such as driving and working with false documentation Would benefit the 12 to 20 million undocumented aliens currently living in the United States Proposals on Immigration Reform “Bringing People Out of The Shadows” This requires undocumented immigrants whoa re in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens

8 In Conclusion The Impact of Responsible Employment of Illegal Documented Workers versus Undocumented workers is clearly an ethical issue Being Responsible in Operations of Employment Has a Direct Impact on Companies, Communities and Individuals.
