1 Lesson 5 Triangulation

2 Learning outcomes To identify what is triangulation.
To consider the advantages of triangulation and the limitations. To consider complementary combinations of research

3 Primary research Secondary research Analysis and synthesis

4 Just the methods of research?
You should also look to see if you need a combination of different data types when planning your research.

5 A 360˚ approach Triangulation means carrying our research in a number of ways to gather evidence on the issue. Why bother? Increases validity of results. Considers all possibilities. Stronger research is produced. However… It can be time consuming Different pieces of research can contradict each other.

6 Do you need to carry out triangulation?
LO3 of the Individual project MB3 requires that you : “Detailed, effective and comprehensive research selecting, obtaining, collating and referencing appropriate, complex secondary and primary information” So yes you will need to carry out triangulation as part of your IP.

7 Progress check and recap
Revisiting all the research methods, both primary and secondary, you have looked at over the previous lessons what combination of methods do you think would compliment each other? Why?
