2 Fig. 1 Surveillance pyramid illustrates where and how underdiagnosis and underreporting of Cryptosporidium in community diarrhoea cases affects reported data from European Union member states. Reported data underestimate true incidence, which vary by country [12]. Multipliers vary by country, but this is due in part to uncertainties in parameters used to reconstruct surveillance pyramid. Factors that contribute most to underreporting and underdiagnosis of Cryptosporidium are differences in healthcare use and laboratory practice.
